SSCOTA Summer

The Smallest Space Cadet Of Them All has been in London for a week, by himself, and when he came back his friend Jonty came with him, so that's a great adventure. 

Here they are feeding the local donkeys, one of which has given birth, which given that they are two adult females puzzles me, but she has come here recently from the Valais, so who knows what when on before.

In the interests of peace and quiet we have shoved the two of them onto a wakeboarding course for the week, which should keep them amused. 

More later, enjoy the summer, damp and dark though it may be.

Harvest Safely In

The harvest has been taken in, and is traditional here in Jussy, the farmers and helpers get their tractors, combines, and other agricultural machinery out for a parade.  The attitude is one of care-free fun, with white wine flowing in abundance, making it an entertaining, and highly dangerous spectacle, best watched from the side of the road....

Norway

I mentioned in my last update that Mrs Spaceship's Norwegian cousins the Ulands had come to visit on the way back to Oslo from a trip around the Mont Blanc. 

Mrs Uland is quite senior in the Norwegian government, in the administration and civil service.  She had been lunching with her son, very near the bomb site, and was walking back to the parliament, when the bomb detonated, and she said that she and her son could feel the physical shock of the explosion. 

Fortunately unhurt, she then commented that real impact is that she works with the labour party extensively, and so she and many, many others will know parents, friends and colleagues of those who were massacred, and that it will be a generational wound,  as the community is a small and tight knit one.

Of the "man" himself, the less said the better.

Midsummer Update

Well, here we are in the middle of what is turning out to be a rather agreeable summer.

The Smallest Space Cadet of them all has finished primary school here in the village, and so this was his last promotion, or parade and celebration of finishing another year.

Here he is, holding a placard that says something dead ecologically sound in Norwegian.  (They all took a different language, and as he is one quarter Norwegian, and someone else had taken English already, it seemed like a good choice.)

Here he is receiving the traditional dictionary for finishing school from the Mayor, who ironically is called Meyer, so I suppose he is Mayor Meyer. 

Sticking with the Norwegian theme, the Uland family popped in to say hello, on their way back from walking around the Mont Blanc,  and going back to Oslo.  They are Mrs Spaceship's cousins, and a very nice bunch too.

Other than that, it has been a quiet summer, what with me dealing with the Attack of Lumps, which continues to go well, and if anything exciting happens, I will post.
