Ever since the terrible events of 9/11, airline security has been ramped up in an understandable, but questionably effective, desire to avoid the same kind of incidents. As a result, I have had to give up my Swiss Army Knife, which was my constant travelling companion. (My father, who is a travel writer by profession has one maxim for travelling - "Forget everything you packed, take three times as much cash, and a Swiss Army Knife.")
Now, my fingernails grow, and they get a little bit too long after about four to five days without trimming, and are uncomfortable to type with. I found that this time in Japan, it was really bugging me to be unable to cut them, so I bought a cheap pair of nail clippers, that I will throw in the bin when I go home. It is a bizarre and constant reminder of the changes in the world...
